4 Books I’ve Read Lately On Creativity

Looking for a book on creativity, maybe related to worship, creative ministry, or in your job? These are four I’ve read lately that can easily be applied to almost any creative field and many others. If you’re wanting to learn more about yourself and creativity, I’d recommend these books. They’ve helped open my eyes to this field as well as finding that I’m not alone in this creative way of thinking. Check them out!

“Why didn’t you come sooner?” – Undaunted

20130118-165542.jpg

These questions on page 22 of Christine Caine’s book, Undaunted have been speaking to me since the first day I read them, a couple days ago. “Why didn’t you come sooner?” If the God you speak of is true.. Can’t help but think of the girls in my community who are slaves to sex trafficking.

I don’t know all the right terminology and still trying to figure out and overcome why you wouldn’t want to be a slave, but through this book and what I’ve learned over the past couple years about sex slavery, and especially now, I think it’s time to worry more about rescuing them than wondering about the what, huh?, and why.

There are girls in my own community and in yours who need our help. They can’t come to us, they may not even realize what’s happening to them is bad, we must go to them.

Haven’t figured out just yet how to rescue those in my community but I know God has a plan. If I’m going to claim to be a disciple of God I can’t just sit around and let it happen here. It’s time to dream, invite God to show us how, and follow. There are girls who need our help.

“Why didn’t you come sooner?”

Now that you know, or maybe were already aware, what’s your next step?

Overcoming the Enemy part 2 – this is it. Read an inspiring book, believe the impossible, become “undaunted”!

What I’m learning (quotes) from “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi – Part 1

What book(s) have you been reading lately?

Having just started a new older book titled “Never Eat Alone: and other secrets to success, one relationship at a time” by Keith Ferrazzi I thought I would share some of what he shares throughout the book (what I’m learning) as I’m reading. He gives a lot of good advice from his personal experience over the years about relationships and business. Pretty much, to sum up what I’ve read so far in the first three chapters, we were made for relationships. Relationships are important. Check out the following quotes –

  • ..You can’t get there alone.
  • Success in any business, is about working with people, not against them.
  • Over time, I came to see reaching out to people as a way to make a difference in people’s lives as well as a way to explore and learn and enrich my own…
  • I learned that real networking was about finding ways to make other people more successful. It was about working hard to give more than you get.
  • It’s a constant process of giving and receiving – of asking for and offering help.
  • You gain trust by asking not what people can do for you…but what you can do for others. … In other words, the currency of real networking is not greed but generosity.
  • Disciplined dreamers all have one thing in common: a mission.
  • The kind of discipline that turns a dream into a mission, and a mission into a reality, really just comes down to a process of setting goals.

These are only a few of the good things I’ve found so far. Relationships are important as well as the other part I forgot about is having a dream, a mission, and setting goals.Over the next few days I’ll continue to share what I’ve been learning from this book as well as more quotes as they seem fitting.

If you are interested in learning more about the types of things talked about above as well as “other secrets to success, one relationship at a time” I’d recommend getting this book or borrowing it from your library.

8 Quotes from Servolution by Dino Rizzo

Wondering how to get your church starting in serving in your local community? Looking for outreach ideas? Want to learn about reaching out and how it relates to Jesus?

Servolution is the book for you.

Reading through Servolution: Starting A Church Revolution Through Serving by Dino Rizzo has been an amazing journey. Learning about community service, hearing stories of how Healing Place Church started, and how to have a heart of service as a church has been awesome. I have a dream to see the local churches in my area unite and finding creative ways to reach out to a small community together or individually and this book has definitely inspired my interest. Check out these 8 quotes from the book. I think you will be inspired as well.

  • We were learning that whenever you find something that meets a need and makes people excited about coming to church, it is probably worth doing.
  • We found that the more we gave stuff away, the more stuff we found ourselves being given to give away.
  • Serving people is not just something we want to do; it’s something we need to do. People discover personal healing through helping others.
  • Our understanding of “the poor” has to include any person in any kind of bondage or under any kind of oppression who needs the freedom of Christ shown to them.
  • It was clear to everyone that the job at hand would require far more than any single government, city, or ministry organization could handle alone. We were all going to need to work together.
  • The church and the community should be fused, working as a unit to bring about healing.
  • Our heart is for people to encounter the hope and love of Jesus, but whether the come to our church or another life-giving church is irrelevant.
  • “..A significant life is about a towel. Everything else is empty.”

Dino shares a lot of ideas and stories from what they have done over the years and just makes you want to go serve someone. Lots of ideas for churches in large communities and small, large outreaches and small outreaches. If you are looking for new ideas, want to learn how to get started, need a book to share with your team to help them get on board, or simply want to be inspired, this is a book for you.

Have you read Servolution? Does your church do community outreach?
