#Passion2015 Session 6 notes: Louie Giglio

Passion 2015 Session 6 notes: Louie Giglio

  • It’s really just begun.

There’s just one more thing that is finished:

  1. Satan’s power and reign is finished.
    • Hebrews 10:11-14 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
      • Jesus has seated but he’s not yet reclined.
      • We may be in a fight right now but it is already finished. Satan is done.
      • The rule and reign of Satan ended the day Jesus died.
      • We’re just waiting for that day, the day his enemies will be made his footstool.
      • It all starts in the mind.
      • I know this thing is crawling on my arm but I also know the reality that Jesus has won this thing.
      • If you step into his mouth [Satan’s] he’s dead but he’s still talking but he’s only talking in the depth to you and me that we don’t know he’s dead. His story [Satan’s] was finished when Jesus was finished [when he died].
    • Hebrews 10:19-25 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
      • We’re not fighting for victory, we’re fighting from victory.
      • We’re fighting because Jesus has already won.
      • You have to step into the battle but Jesus is fighting for us.
      • The game’s been changed.
      • It may look like everything has gone crazy, but we have further information.
      • But what Jesus is wanting to say to us today is upon further review.., to tetelestai, his plans, his purposes, in this world are finished. There is now a countdown on him that is counting down.
      • The enemy is going to an eternity of defeat but we are going to an eternity of celebration.
      • We have overcome with Him.
      • It is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

#Passion2015 Session 5 notes: Matt Chandler

Passion 2015 Session 5 – Matt Chandler

Romans 11:33-36 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

4 things about God [from this passage] that will change and anchor our souls:

  1. God’s transcendent wealth
    • There was nothing until God said something.
  2. He is sovereign in his knowing
    • 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
  3. God is inscrutable
    • Job 38:2-4 “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Dress for action like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me. “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
    • James 4:14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
    • Romans 9:20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
    • Will we believe and trust that He’s loving?
    • God is with you in the mess.
    • Look at the cross.
    • I am for you, I am not against you.
  4. God’s perfect self-sufficiency
  5. God’s glorious self-regard
    • Psalm 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
    • God is for God.
    • If God is about God then it’s not about me.
    • Repentance, confession, freedom, get up.

#Passion2015 Session 2 notes: Francis Chan

Passion 2015 Session 2: Francis Chan

  • It’s You and Him. This [Passion 2015] is going to last another day .. but it’s about You and God. It has to be this way. Because what makes worship awesome is the object of our worship.
  • We should be excited to worship because of the object [God] of our worship.
  • We’re in the presence of God.

Matthew 25:40 ..‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

  • We get to be part of God’s plan.

Exodus 19:9-17 And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” When Moses told the words of the people to theLord, the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments and be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. And you shall set limits for the people all around, saying, ‘Take care not to go up into the mountain or touch the edge of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall be put to death. No hand shall touch him, but he shall be stoned or shot; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’ When the trumpet sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain.” So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people; and they washed their garments. And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.” On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain.

  • I’m praying you never lose the wonder of prayer.
  • I pray that you never lose the wonder that you can be alone with Him.

Exodus 33:7-11 Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise up, and each would stand at his tent door, and watch Moses until he had gone into the tent. When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord would speak with Moses. And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door. Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

  • It’s finished, do you understand that? It’s finished, there used to be a veil there. Now it’s torn open, and now you can get into the presence of God.
  • This is amazing. I get to be in the presence of God. He’s watching me.
  • Get in your tent. You’re not going to have this [Passion, youth group, your church, role models..] forever.
  • This is your center, your tent. It’s just you and Him.
  • This is the one thing that remains constant. This is the One thing that always remains the same.
  • Get in the tent now. Make it your habit, your oxygen.

1 Peter 4:7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

  • It’s right there. The end of all things is at hand. So you better be self controlled, clear minded, for the sake of your prayers.
  • The one thing you want to have together when he returns is your prayer life.
  • Prayer is the goal.
  • My concern for this generation is that you can’t focus deeply in prayer.
  • I want to have you guys close your eyes and walk up the mountain.
  • Meet with him face to face like Moses did in that tent.
  • He is literally watching you right now.

#Passion2015 Session 1 notes: Louie Giglio

Passion 2015 Session 1 notes: Louie Giglio

  • In the moment Jesus died something powerful happened to you and me.
  • Jesus is in fact coming back.
  • We have a place to be in God’s story.
  • Nothing eclipses the overarching reality that God has put you on earth in a story that is already going on.
  • History is His story and he’s got a role for us to play in his story.

John 19:28-29 – Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

  • It is finished..
  • It’s not just history. It’s your history.
  • His last words are our first words. Our life begins where his life ended.

1. The system is finished.

  • When Jesus spoke that word, [finished], it meant the system [religious system] was finished.
  • Jesus is the final sacrifice for all people of all times.
  • Now it’s all about the Savior who has already made us right with God.
  • The systems are over. There is no more making ourselves good enough for God.

“It is finished =Tetelestai = Kala [Tetelestai means “it is finished” in Jesus’ language, the word he would have spoke while on the cross. Kala also means “finished” and is the word the priest would have used when a sacrifice was made.]

2. The wages of sin is finished.

  • Sin makes us dead people.
  • The issue is are we dead or alive?
  • Sin makes us dead.
  • Jesus left heaven and stepped on earth to bring us back to life.
  • The payment of sin is death, and that happened right then and there.
  • Romans 5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
  • Death is real but spiritual death is done. It is finished.
  • Sin made you dead but Jesus gives you life.

3. Shame was finished.

  • Shame is over. Shame is finished. Guilt is finished.
  • Isaiah 6:7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
  • You know what’s finished. My shame is finished, my guilt is finished..
  • I’ve already been defined by the truth of Jesus .. and I’m not going to carry that shame anymore.
  • It’s time to blow out the candles on the pity party cake.
  • He’s finished and I’m finished. I’m finished with being condemned.
  • Tetelestai defines my life.
  • You have a role to play in the story of God.
  • He’s not going back to the cross. It was enough. It is finished.

4. Selfish is finished.

  • The system is finished, sin is finished, shame is finished, and finally selfish is finished.
  • Tonight we rally around a cross where Jesus was selfless like nobody’s ever been selfless before and in that moment he even realized he was part of the story of God. ..Let your will and not my will be done..
  • To embrace that the system is over, and sin is over, and shame is over, is to also embody the reality that self is finished.
  • We want to to be the “we” not the “me” generation because we want to be His generation.
  • What links us together is that word, “it is finished”.
  • We’re ending up with eyes on Jesus and celebrating that He gave up His right so that we could become children of God.
  • His death right became our birthright and everything we have is because of Him alone.
  • So the story we will sing to the world is that I was dead and now I’m alive…
  • I am in the movie.
    • It’s all Jesus but in that scene I was in it.
    • I’ll play the background so that You can get the glory.
    • I’m just glad that I’m not dead and that I’m in the movie of God.
