Reflecting on Saturday, Excited for Resurrection Sunday

I am so beyond excited for Easter services this year. Practices throughout the week, services Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Been preparing for Easter with an attempt at Lent, the scriptures, prayer, reading the Easter story, and listening to an Easter playlist.

Tonight, on the night so many years ago, that Jesus laid in the tomb between Friday and Sunday. I can imagine some must have been anxious, sad, or waiting in anticipation to see what would happen. It was a sad day, probably heartbreaking for those who knew him best. Waiting..wondering..what would happen or come of this. The Bible doesn’t talk about the disciples feelings on Saturday, that I remember, but what would you be thinking if you were close to Jesus, he’s laying in a tomb, and you don’t know the rest of the story because it wasn’t written yet?

Laying here trying to sleep, reflecting on these events, the last week, upcoming exciting LifeGroup plans, what God is doing and what he is continuing to do, realizing once again that late nights to late mornings only work when you can sleep the next morning, and I’m excited about Sunday. Who wants to sleep when your friends are on Facebook having way too much fun chatting..what happens when we’re all tired, and that Jesus came back to life the next day? I don’t want to sleep, I’m exhausted and way too awake.

But in the stillness of it all. The blog calls, friends agree with the suggestion, and though I’m not actually falling asleep I’m excited that I’m actually blogging, writing is something I need to do more of. Jesus time, listening to the playlist, why not write when you can’t fall asleep?

Thankful for this great week leading up to Easter, and even more thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for us. That we deserve to die for what we’ve done wrong, but Jesus, knowing it was the only way possible to make it so we could be right with him, gave up his life so we could be free, conquered death, hell, and the grave, and came back to life. He gave his life so that we could have life. He gives us a second chance when we don’t deserve it. A relationship with Jesus starts by admitting you need a Savior (you need to be rescued..you can’t get to God on your own), believing that Jesus died for you, was buried, and came back to life so that you could be free, and confessing him. “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9. If you’re just now choosing to start with God and admit, believe, and confess, tell someone about this decision or if you want to know more. If you’re not sure who to tell, find a Bible believing church in your area and share your decision with them.

This Easter Sunday, the day that Jesus so many years ago, came back to life. A day of life, celebration, freedom, and remembrance. I don’t want anyone to not know the story of what Jesus did for them and not have the opportunity to know and choose life with Jesus. Praying for all of you on this Easter weekend, your churches, those who know Jesus, and those coming for the first time. Know Jesus, know his life, come to church services at a church near you tomorrow and get to know Jesus better.

Couldn’t be a better night of reflection on Jesus laying in the tomb. So glad to remember he comes back to life tomorrow!

What are your thoughts on all this? How have you been preparing for Easter? What are your favorite parts? What is your church doing tomorrow in celebration of the resurrection?
