God’s Love for YOU on Valentine’s Day!

Wow, it’s February again, and we even have some snow for Valentine’s Day! Today is a day where most people think about hearts, flowers, chocolate, their boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife or a special friend. Since I don’t have any of those really..ok I have lots of friends..but none in that type of way, I’m thinking about God.

No I’m not going to marry God..but it is a day of love..and thinking about love.

Thinking about how God loved me and you so much that he gave his son, Jesus, to die on the cross to pay for all of the bad things we’ve ever done (and all yet to come). Not only did he die though, he was buried, and then 3 days later he came back to life.

Jesus, God’s son, died and came back to life. How cool is that? Not only that, but he did it for us, because he loves us and wants us to be in heaven with him some day instead of going to hell with our enemy Satan.

It’s all about love.

God and Jesus’ love for us.

Would you give your child to die so that those you love can be alive and set free? That must have been a hard sacrifice, but God did it because he loves you and me. He also knew that he had all the power in the world and could raise his son back to life, but that isn’t the point here. He made his son go through pain and torture and horrible smells and bruises and blood…all because He loves us.

How can we love Jesus back this Valentine’s Day? How can we show him how thankful we are that we don’t have to die and go to hell to receive the punishment we deserve?

One of the best ways to do this is by saying thank you. He offers us forgiveness and a new chance at life, the opportunity to have our slates washed clean, a choice to become a new person. All you have to do to receive this this Valentine’s Day, or any other day for that matter, is to simply admit, believe, and confess. Forgiveness is a free gift he wants to give you. He loves you, it is free. It’s as easy as ABC –

A.dmit – Admit that you have done wrong and need someone to save you.

B. elieve – Believe that Jesus died on the cross for everything you have done and ever will do wrong, and that he rose again on the third day.

C. onfess – Confess/tell Jesus that He is now your Lord, and tell a friend or pastor that you did this. Talk to him just like you would to a friend. You might say, “Dear Jesus…” then add what you want to tell him. Even though you can’t see him he is listening and will hear you no matter what you talk to him.

Romans 10:9-10 puts it this way, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.”

Your next steps are to start learning more about God and Jesus and this new life through – talking to him like you did in step C. (prayer), reading the Bible (our manual or map), and getting involved with others who believe in Jesus (church services, small group). If you have already made this decision and are a Believer, simply thank Jesus for loving you, forgiving you, and allowing you to have a second chance and to go to heaven one day. Thank you that we can remember him on Valentine’s Day.

God loved us. Jesus died. God raised his son back to life. He did this so we could be forgiven, have new life, and live forever one day with Him in heaven. If only we would confess his name and believe in Him we would be washed clean and not receive the punishment we deserve in hell with Satan. Thank you Jesus for offering your life for us and allowing us to remember what you did on the cross and how you came back to life all because you and your Father loved us that much. May we remember your love and to live for you, in everything we say and do today, amen.

Are you thinking about Jesus this Valentine’s Day?
