Passion 2012 – Session 7 Notes – John Piper

John Piper

1 Corinthians 10:31; 6:19, Isaiah 43:7, Colossians 1:16,

  • God intends for your life to bring him glory.
  • He means for you to do everything you do to make him look great.

Main point: Seeing and savoring the supremacy of Jesus Christ frees you from the slavery of sin for the sacrifices of love.

  • Faith in Jesus Christ frees you from the slavery of sin for the sacrifices of love.

1. Why are seeing and savoring the supremacy of Jesus, being satisfied in all that God is for us in Jesus, and trusting Jesus all equivalent realities? (John 1:12, Hebrews 11:6)

    • What is freedom? (Romans 6:17,
      • Freedom is doing what you want to do and not regretting what you’re doing in 10 years.
      • The more satisfied you are in Jesus the more free you are.

2. The supremacy of Christ. All that God is for us in Christ Jesus.

    • The supremacy of his grace, love, inexhaustible gladness. He is supreme over everything.
    • There is not a square inch of the universe where Jesus does not say “mine.”

3. Seeing and savoring the supremacy of Christ you will be progressively free.

4. And you will be freed for the sacrifices of love.
