Whispers from the Holy Spirit
“Listen to the whisper, be available, allow God to show you the signs, and follow where he leads you. #treasurehunt” – @tijuanabecky
While chatting with a friend on Skype last night I felt led to visit a Facebook page where I found that their latest update was exactly what we were talking about.
After having a discussion with another friend I was led to check Twitter and in one of the chat streams found a RT that well summarized what we had just been discussing.
Listening to a playlist of over 100 songs on YouTube and noticing that they have been well shuffled.
Have you ever felt like God was taking you on a treasure hunt? Maybe you didn’t realize it at first but eventually after enough clues it started to become obvious through signs and hints that he was answering your prayers or trying to tell you something.
This is exactly what has been happening recently. I’m not real sure what God is doing but I’m seeing signs of preparation for greater things in my own life, the church, and within some friends. It’s in those quiet moments, when you’re not doing much, that some things begin to happpen. Being silent, still, and open is one way of saying to God, and the Holy Spirit, that we’re available which is similar to what Samuel experienced in 1 Samuel 3 –
“…In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions. One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.
Then the Lord called Samuel.
Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. The Lord called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy.
So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” And the Lord said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle. ..”
What do you think? How has God or the Holy Spirit been speaking to you lately?
