Christians are Aliens Our Home is Heaven

Christians are aliens, our home is heaven. How does this fit into “Meeting People From Another Planet” you might ask. Well that is quite simple, we are to be in this world but not of this world. Meaning as Christians our actions and way of life should model God, not the ways of the world.

When you’re at school, the grocery store, in a small group, meeting, online, etc how do non Christians view you. Do they know that you belong to God? Can they see in your actions that you are different? If others looked at the Bible and looked at you would they match up?

“You are the light of the world-like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead put it on a stand and let it shine for all.” – Matt 5:14-15

People should be able to tell that you are different, have the love of Christ in your life, and that you really are changed by how you live and act. Some non Christians and luke warm Christians will look up to you, others will make fun of you and want nothing to do with you.

“God blesses you when you are mocked and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember the ancient prophets were persecuted, too.” – Matt 5:11-12

You stick out when you are living like Christ. People notice that something is different and often you may feel like you don’t fit in in the real world and others may think so too and this is true. We are like aliens, when people make fun of us or abuse us for following God and standing up for what is right, we have hope in God because our eternal home is heaven, that is where we belong.

“Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.” – 1 Peter 2:11

“For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of Christ. Their future is eternal destruction. .. But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.”  – Philippians 3:18, 19a, 20

We are aliens on planet Earth, citizens of Heaven. And while we are waiting for Jesus to return and take us home we should be making disciples and living for God. Our life’s goal is to get to heaven and to take as many people with us as possible.

Do you blend in with this world or are you living as a citizen of Heaven? I know I’ve got work to do, howabout you?

  1. Great post Beckie! That was very inspiring and motivating for me. 🙂 You got some good out of the “Marsian” encounter. ;p

  2. You are so right-on here! So often we Christians live as if we are part of the kingdom of this world rather than the Kingdom of Heaven. You can especially tell it by our treasures. Am I investing more in the Kingdom of Heaven or simply settling for a slum on earth? Am I filling my life with worthless trinkets or filling heaven with eternal treasures?

  3. Awesome job Becky! This life is just the rodeo. We have a job to do here, but our real home is far away. The good news is that we will stay at this rodeo until all of our rides are done, but then God’s gonna fly us home….we don’t even have to drive.

This rodeo can be tough, but that’s just the way it is. Saddle up and ride hard–you never know when that last rides gonna come.

    And it will.

    • Kevin I love how you compared this to the rodeo. Going to saddle up and keep riding!

Good point Richard. Asking those questions daily could help one stay on track.

Thanks, My Search For God, glad this post could inspire you.
