Remembering our Nations Foundation
A day to remember, our nations foundation. Men fighting so that we could be a people, a nation, free to worship Christ.
America the Beautiful (c) 1913 by Katherine Lee Bates
1. O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
3. O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!
Each year in America we take a day to remember those who fallen, those who serve and fight for our freedom, as well as those who have died fighting. This day is called Memorial Day. In many church services across America on this weekend we, as a church, take the time to honor those who have served our country and sometimes we sing some of the Patriotic songs like God Bless America, America the Beautiful, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Is remembering and honoring Memorial Day in a church service a wrong thing, is it ok?
Not only is Memorial Day for those who have fallen and serve our country a one day thing in America, but America’s foundation was built on God. Last I knew our coins still said “In God We Trust.” This country doesn’t always remember and do a good job of acting like we trust in God and that He is our foundation but he is. For those of us who are Christians our life’s foundation is God. A Christian’s foundation is God and our nations foundation is God. Especially us as Christians need to stand up and be the example that this country still belongs to God, that we still trust in him, and that there is hope. We are who people turn to in times of need, we need to remind them of our nations foundation and bring God back to the center so that when “outsiders” (people from other countries, and non believers) see us (us here is America and Christians) they see God. When people from other countries set foot in America that they’d see and feel God and know that this countries foundation is God.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”(Matt 7:24-25)
That is how America should look, America was built on that rock, Jesus Christ. When we face evil, other powers, have to fight for our freedom and during hard times, we do not fall because our foundation is Christ. We are falling, we have been falling, we have let Satan attack. We need to stand up, run at Satan, and show him that God is still in control of our country and that he has already won our battle.
